Whelan announced a new service relationship with NC4 – The National Center for Crisis and Continuity Coordination in 2005.
NC4 is an incident-monitoring center designed to provide notification service for significant incidents that occur across the nation. This includes transportation, severe weather, hazmat, law enforcement, fire, terrorism, and other incidents that may impact employee health/safety or have the potential to cause business disruption. Examples of disasters that may be of interest are hazmat emergencies, bomb threats, explosions, civil arrests, terrorism, police activity, street closures, major fires, and various other types of incidents.
NC4 monitors over 2000 information sources from the public and private sectors to provide early warning of incidents at the local, regional, and national levels. Should a reportable incident occur that is near any client-interested property located anywhere in the United States, the designated subscriber is immediately notified by pager, phone, blackberry, PDA, or email. In most cases, this information is delivered before it is reported via the news media (if it even reported to the news media).
There is no infrastructure or IT labor required with the service provided by NC4. Rather, it is solely a subscription-based service.
