April 22, 2019 seemed like a routine day for Linda Strong, a security receptionist at Fidelity Investments in Covington, Ky. However, that all changed when a Fidelity associate collapsed outside of the building, springing Linda into action.

Linda responded to the scene after notifying other security team members of the incident. When she and Sami Peterson, a trained EMT, arrived, they found the employee unconscious with no pulse on the ground.

Linda assisted Sami with the care of the patient, while controlling the crowd and making sure EMS was dispatched to the scene. The employee was given as many as four cycles of CPR and delivered shock from an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to obtain a heartbeat. Multiple EMTs were on deck, lending support and providing eight minutes of CPR until the patient eventually began breathing on his own.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived after 14 minutes of critical lifesaving treatment. Linda and the security team later learned that the Fidelity associate had undergone heart surgery and was expected to make a full recovery.

Linda was presented a Making a Difference (MAD) Award for her quick thinking and utilization of her Emergency Responder training.
