St. Louis - Whelan Security Company, Inc., one of the industry's foremost respected providers of contract security staffing services, has announced that Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Pollihan has joined the company.
After graduating from the police academy in 1972, Pollihan served as a patrolman in the First District, Third and Fourth Districts. He also served as a detective in the Bureau of Investigation and was assigned as the Commander of Operational Planning when he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1982.
Pollihan was promoted to Lieutenant in 1987, followed by promotions to the rank of Captain in 1989 and Major in 1993. As a Commander, he served as the Executive Aide to past Chiefs John Berner and Robert Scheetz.
In March 1994, he was selected to be the Secretary to the Board of Police Commissioners and in January 1998 he was promoted to Lt. Colonel and assigned as the Commander of the Central Patrol Division.
In November 2003, Pollihan was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police. Prior to his promotion, he served as Commander of the Bureau of Professional Standards, serving as the Inspector of Police which includes the Internal Affairs Division, the Police Academy, the Special Services Division, and the Information Services Division. With over thirty-six (36) years of service to the community, Pollihan retired in January 2009.
Pollihan is co-author of the book, In the Line of Duty - St. Louis Police Officers Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice, published in 1991.
Pollihan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Affairs from St. Louis University and a Masters Degree in Administration of Justice from Webster University.
