Whelan Security Climbs in National Rankings As A Result of Significant Expansion Throughout the Central U.S.

St. Louis—Whelan Security Co., headquartered in St. Louis, has announced that it was once again ranked by “Security Magazine” (an industry trade publication) as one of the largest contract security companies operating in North America in its 5th Annual Listing of Top Guard Firms. Security Magazine ranks the top contract security companies operating in North America (out of an estimated 12,000 companies); and Whelan Security was once again ranked within the top fifteen companies (public and private) based upon total revenues and full-time employees.

From humble beginnings in 1949 as a simple security patrol company providing service along the St. Louis riverfront, Whelan Security, under the direction and leadership of Greg Twardowski and Prentice Robertson, has quietly grown to become the largest regional contract security company operating throughout the Central and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. Today, with offices scattered throughout fifteen (15) states as well as Washington D.C. through Whelan SFI (a joint venture with Security Forces, Inc. of Charlotte, NC), Whelan Security currently ranks as one of the top ten privately owned contract security companies operating in the U.S.

In 2007, total revenues increased by almost 30% as the company expanded into seven new markets including Denver (CO), Detroit (MI), Minneapolis-St. Paul (MN), Albuquerque (NM), Little Rock (AR), and Tulsa and Oklahoma City (OK). Similar to previous geographic expansion within the organization, much of the expansion in 2007 was the result of natural extensions of existing multi-regional agreements with current customers and all of it was organic growth. Whelan Security has yet to make an acquisition although it continues to look at acquisition opportunities as a vehicle to further accelerate the growth of the company.
