Whelan Security Mid-Atlantic, Inc. (d/b/a Whelan Security) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Pristoop as Director – Mission Support in the East Region. As Director – Mission Support, Michael will manage efforts in human resources, recruiting, training and field auditing. He will also oversee regulatory and contractual compliance.
Prior to Joining Whelan Security, Michael Pristoop was the Director of Policy with the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions where he was responsible for the development of model policy and practices for Maryland Law enforcement and correctional services agencies.
Michael Pristoop was the Chief of Police of the City of Annapolis, Maryland from 2008 – 2017. With over three decades of public service experience as a criminal investigator and executive-level law enforcement officer, Chief Pristoop is credited with reducing violent crime in Maryland’s capital city to historic lows. Chief Pristoop has extensive experience in police operations, tactics, organizational planning and human capital assessment for public safety agencies. He has conducted formal, peer-reviewed staffing evaluations for the Baltimore (MD), Annapolis (MD) and State of Maryland Department of General Services Police Departments.
Prior to joining the Annapolis Police Department, Pristoop served as Chief of Police of the Maryland Capital Police and concluded a twenty-one-year career as a command-level officer with the City of Baltimore’s Police Department.
Chief Pristoop is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy. He holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore, School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree in Jurisprudence from the University of Baltimore. He graduated with distinction from both degree programs and earned the honor of acceptance into the prestigious Heuisler Honor Society, an institution that recognizes exemplary study in the field of law.
Chief Pristoop is admitted to Maryland State Bar. He is a member and Past President of the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association. He is also a member of International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Police Executive Research Forum.
